It looks like the Joker isn’t stopping at its over $1 billion at the box office and 11 Oscar nominations—there will be an international live-in-concert run that will kick off in London on April 30th.

This news comes just two days after the Joker’s film composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir, won a BAFTA for Original Music. She also won a Golden Globe and is the frontrunner for an Oscar.

“I’m thrilled to get to see and hear Joker in the cinema with a live orchestra. When we recorded the music, the orchestra brought such depth and detailed attention to the performances that we were all literally holding our breaths during most of the recording sessions. It was a beautiful trip. I’m so happy to get to go there again and for an audience to experience that too,” Guðnadóttir said about the event.

The live event, which will have a full orchestra, will start its run at London’s Eventim Apollo before touring the UK in July and expanding to other international locations. The conductor and orchestrator of the original soundtrack, Jeff Atmajian, along with Dave Mahoney, will conduct the UK tour dates.

Joker is officially the most profitable comic book movie of all time.

The DC movie starring Joaquin Phoenix generated a huge hype before it hit screens. The divisive comic villain movie stirred up a ruckus, generating a mix of 5* reviews and harsh criticism. In spite of the controversy, however, Joker shaped up to be the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Now, according to Forbes, the film is reported to have pulled in $953 million at the box office globally. Although this does not come close to the $2 billion the Avengers movies pulled in, the film generated a whopping profit of shy of $900 million. Given that it cost only $62.5 million to make, Joker has now been declared as the most profitable superhero movie of all time.

In a glowing review, Variety said about Joker: “Joaquin Phoenix is astonishing as a mentally ill geek who becomes the killer-clown Joker in Todd Phillips’ neo-‘Taxi Driver’ knockout: the rare comic-book movie that expresses what’s happening in the real world.”

Joker is showing in movie theaters now.

When Deadpool landed on the big screen in 2016, it was a much-needed breath of fresh air. After being bombarded with Marvel flicks, Ryan Reynolds debut as the hilarious anti-hero was great for superhero fans over the age of eighteen. The unconventional X-Man drinks, swears, and mocks just about every superhero trope in the book.

The film was such a big hit that it ended up pulling an impressive $783 million at the box office. Up until now, this was the record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie. Now, the far more serious and darker Joker movie is set to overtake it.

In true Deadpool style, Reynolds responded to the news with a hilarious edited photo he shared on Twitter.

The photo was of the iconic photo of Arthur Fleck on the staircase with the words “You motherf***er edited over the top. He captioned the image: “R-Rated box office congratulatory posts aren’t like the ones you’re used to…”

The joke image has received thousands of retweets and fans are looking forward to the Joker digs that will inevitably follow in Deadpool 3.

If you haven’t managed to catch Joker on the big screen yet, there’s still time.

Since it was announced that an R-rated Joker movie would be added to the DC Universe, fans have been wondering how Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker will tie in with the Gotham world. Is Phoenix replacing Jared Leto, and will Robert Pattison’s Batman ever meet Phoenix’s Joker?

The director, Todd Phillips, has finally clarified Joker‘s connection to the DC universe.

“It’s not really connected to that [Worlds of DC] Universe,” Phillips said via ComicBook. “And it was really intentionally not.”

He continued: “I mean the original idea when I went to [Warner Bros] with the idea was not just about one movie, but about a label – sort of a side label to DC, where you can do these kind of character study, low-rent, low-budget movies, where you get a filmmaker to come in and do some deep dive into a character.

“So it was never meant to connect, so I don’t see it connecting to anything in the future. I think this is just this movie, you know?”

Joker will be released in movie theaters October 4th.

A month ahead of its global release, the upcoming Joker movie made its debut at Venice Film Festival. The film has been met with exceptional praise, with Phoenix’s performance being tipped for an Oscar win.

The feature tells the origin story of DC’s infamous villain in a way we have never seen before. His backstory is one of tragedy, social injustice, and disturbed mental health. Here’s what the critics have said.

Variety

Joker manages the nimble feat of telling the Joker’s origin story as if it were unprecedented. We feel a tingle when Bruce Wayne comes into the picture; he’s there less as a force than an omen. And we feel a deeply deranged thrill when Arthur, having come out the other side of his rage, emerges wearing smeary make-up, green hair, an orange vest and a rust-colored suit.”

Collider

“From the way the opening credits play, to the final frames of the movie, Phillips has taken the colorful comic book movie to the dirty, gritty streets of the late 1970s with fantastic results. Trust me, you have never seen a comic book movie like Joker, and I’m not sure we will ever get one like this again.”

Empire

“It’s a sad, chaotic, slow-burn study of someone who isn’t visible; who doesn’t even exist to the world around them. But your empathy, sympathy even, isn’t guaranteed, and it begins to dissolve as Arthur somehow moves even further to the edges.”

We were convinced that Heath Ledger gave the greatest Joker performance of all time.

But the first trailer from the upcoming Joker movie is giving us doubts…

Joaquin Phoenix takes on the role of the Clown Prince of Crime in what is probably the most raw depiction of the character yet.

The teaser trailer for the film, which premiered at CinemaCon, illustrates how The Joker was a man named Arthur who just went a little — okay, a lot — mad.

“My mother always tells me to smile and put on a happy face. She told me I had a purpose, to bring laughter and joy to the world,” Phoenix can be heard saying as we witness the tragedy that was Arthur’s life.

Todd Phillips is directing the origin story, which also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Shea Whigham, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Douglas Hodge, and Brett Cullen.

The “tragic comedy” comes out on October 4th.

Now that was fast and unexpected.

Just two days after Warner Bros. confirmed that Alec Baldwin has been tapped to star in a key supporting role on the upcoming standalone Joker movie, the 60-year-old actor announced that he’s no longer attached to the project.

The actor told USA Today on Wednesday that he’s “no longer doing that movie,” due to “scheduling issues.” He even went on to diss the role adding, “I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.”

Just in case someone hadn’t heard or wasn’t sure he also shared this on Twitter: “Let me state, for the record, that I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillips’ JOKER as some Donald Trump manque. That is not happening. Not. Happening.”

Baldwin was supposed to portray Thomas Wayne, father of Bruce Wayne aka Batman opposite Joaquin Phoenix as his arch nemesis Joker. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character was set to be a take on Baldwin’s comic Saturday Night Live Trump character.

The Todd Phillips helmed feature “centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of a man disregarded by society is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”
