“Joker” Breaks Another Box Office Record

Joaquin Phoenix in "Joker"

Joker is officially the most profitable comic book movie of all time.

The DC movie starring Joaquin Phoenix generated a huge hype before it hit screens. The divisive comic villain movie stirred up a ruckus, generating a mix of 5* reviews and harsh criticism. In spite of the controversy, however, Joker shaped up to be the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Now, according to Forbes, the film is reported to have pulled in $953 million at the box office globally. Although this does not come close to the $2 billion the Avengers movies pulled in, the film generated a whopping profit of shy of $900 million. Given that it cost only $62.5 million to make, Joker has now been declared as the most profitable superhero movie of all time.

In a glowing review, Variety said about Joker: “Joaquin Phoenix is astonishing as a mentally ill geek who becomes the killer-clown Joker in Todd Phillips’ neo-‘Taxi Driver’ knockout: the rare comic-book movie that expresses what’s happening in the real world.”

Joker is showing in movie theaters now.
