The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is reaching its end after five seasons, and we finally know what to expect once it comes back. Amazon dropped the first trailer for the final chapter of this series, which sees Midge Maisel trying to navigate the murky waters of the stand-up comedy world for one last time.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel centers on a young housewife Midge Maisel, who decided to give stand-up comedy a shot after her marriage falls apart. Season 5 will see her find herself closer than ever to the success she’s dreamed of, only to discover that closer than ever is still so far away.

The show’s co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino told The Hollywood Reporter they always wanted the show to have between four and six seasons, and that their priority for Season 5 was to honor the characters.

“The bar is just making sure that we put this cast through what we put them through and made them work as hard as they did, and that they get to come out of this feeling like they’ve made a good journey, and that their characters have traveled and ended someplace of worth,” said Sherman-Palladino.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is led by Rachel Brosnahan, and it also stars Alex Borstein, Michael Zegen, Marin Hinkle, Tony Shalhoub, Kevin Pollak, Caroline Aaron, and Luke Kirby. Season 5 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 14, and it will feature a total of nine episodes.

It seems like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will be making us laugh for at least another year. Shortly after the third season of this show started streaming on Amazon, it was announced it is renewed for Season 4.

Executive producers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, who picked up several prestigious awards since this series premiered, thanked Amazon for allowing them to continue telling Mrs. Maisel’s story. “We were thrilled to hear that for the fourth time, we do not have to pack up and vacate the premises. We’d like to thank Amazon for all their faith and support, their partnership and enthusiasm, and for letting us hang with our favorite people, the cast and crew of Maisel, for a little while longer,” said the duo.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, was equally excited to welcome the show back and praised the Palladinos for creating “such funny, charming, relatable characters, all with their inimitable wit and eye for detail.”

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel tells the story of New York City housewife, who decides to give stand-up comedy a shot during the ‘50s. The show premiered in 2017 and won three Golden Globes and 16 Emmys over the years.

Alex Borstein is known for cracking jokes at most opportunities, but The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star used her Emmy Award-winning opportunity to spread a message of empowerment.

Borstein’s name was called out on Sunday night as she picked up her second consecutive Primetime Emmy Award for playing Susie Myerson on the hit Amazon Prime series.

During her acceptance speech, the comedienne paid tribute to all the women whom she works with on Maisel by reflecting on a story about her mother and grandmother.

“They are immigrants, they are Holocaust survivors,” she said. “My grandmother was in line to be shot into a pit. She said, ‘What happens if I step out of line?’ He said, ‘I don’t have the heart to shoot you but somebody will,’ and she stepped out of line. For that, I am here and my children are here. So step out of line, ladies. Step out of line.”

Her advice was answered by rapturous applause.

It’s tough work being a touring female comic, so R&R is to be taken advantage of whenever it can.

That’s exactly what Midge Maisel appears to be doing in the first image released from the upcoming season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Looking as glamorous as always, the comedienne can be seen lying on a deck chair by the pool, reading a copy of Vogue, while her manager Susie sort of, well, collapses on the chair next to her.

Season 2 ended with Midge being asked to open for musician Shy Baldwin on his tour, which is set to take them to Miami, where this photo was taken.

Season 3 is also expected to include This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown, and very possibly Lauren Graham, who worked with Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino on Gilmore Girls.

“Lauren made a request, and Lauren is my queen and the reason I have a career, so I honor the request of Lauren Graham,” she said. “I’m trying to figure it out. Hopefully [she’ll be in season three]. It would be lovely.”

A premiere date for season 3 has not yet been announced, but it is expected later this year.

It is not news that Sterling K. Brown is marvelous, but this latest bit of casting news has seemingly confirmed it.

While This Is Us is on hiatus between its third and fourth season, the award-winning actor has booked himself a role on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The series’ main star, Rachel Brosnahan, has previously said that Brown would be her top choice for a guest role, and it appears as though the powers-that-be were listening.

“The Palladinos were kind enough to write something for your boy, and I said yes. So stay tuned. I’m getting together with Midge, and it’s gonna be awesome,” Brown said, announcing the good news.

Never having done stand-up, the 43-year-old is known for being a pretty funny guy (Randall Pearson would be proud) so it is possible that he could play a comic in season three of the Amazon Prime series.

We’re already putting our hands together.
