Alex Borstein is known for cracking jokes at most opportunities, but The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star used her Emmy Award-winning opportunity to spread a message of empowerment.

Borstein’s name was called out on Sunday night as she picked up her second consecutive Primetime Emmy Award for playing Susie Myerson on the hit Amazon Prime series.

During her acceptance speech, the comedienne paid tribute to all the women whom she works with on Maisel by reflecting on a story about her mother and grandmother.

“They are immigrants, they are Holocaust survivors,” she said. “My grandmother was in line to be shot into a pit. She said, ‘What happens if I step out of line?’ He said, ‘I don’t have the heart to shoot you but somebody will,’ and she stepped out of line. For that, I am here and my children are here. So step out of line, ladies. Step out of line.”

Her advice was answered by rapturous applause.
