Catch “E.T” Phoning Home, Again

You heard that right, the creature from the E.T and the boy who played Elliot, Henry Thomas, in the 1982 Steven Speilberg movie are reuniting for A Holiday Reunion.

The new film is only 4 minutes long and it’s about E.T’s return back to Earth and connecting with Elliot, who is now a full-grown adult with a wife and two kids who look quite similar to a young Elliot and Gertie (Drew Barrymore). The film, which resembles the original, also plugs Xfinity, “It’s called the Internet,” Elliott’s son says to E.T. “A lot’s changed since you were here,” Elliot says.

Two minutes of the film were shown on NBC’s Macy’s Day Thanksgiving Parade and it can be seen in promotional videos at movie theatres over the holiday weekend and a 30-second version was played during ads on NBC primetime and NFL games on CBS and Fox and they will run until January 5.

“The audience is going to get everything they want out of a sequel without the messy bits that could destroy the beauty of the original and the special place it has in people’s minds and hearts,” Thomas said.

The original E.T was a box office success, winning four Oscars and grossing over $359 million in the U.S and $304 million internationally.
