Val Kilmer Joins Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick”

Val Kilmer is heading back in his fighter jet. 

The actor is returning to the skies, reprising one of his most iconic roles, as Tom Karzansky AKA Iceman for Top Gun: Maverick. 

The 58-year-old actor will be joining Tom Cruise who is reprising his character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for the sequel to 1986’s Top Gun.

Cruise has confirmed that production has begun on the sequel, tweeting a photo day one of production. The picture shows Cruise’s character looking at his plane, with the words “Feel the need” over the image, a reference to one of the most famous lines from the original film.

The sequel is set in present day and follows the fighter pilot duo as they battle with drone tech that is making their old style of flying obsolete. 

The sequel was given an official fo last year with Cruise telling the hosts of Australia’s Sunrise morning show. “You know what? I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. It’s happening. It is definitely happening.”

Top Gun: Maverick is set to hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
