“Uncut Gems” Scores Box Office Record for Indie Film Company

Midsommar is no longer A24’s top grossing feature.

Multiple outlets confirm that Uncut Gems is officially the indie distributor’s No.1 film after having generated an impressive $18.8 million since opening on Wednesday.

The Adam Sandler-fronted film is set in New York’s Diamond District and centers on Sandler’s character, a compulsive gambler attempting to get out of debt.

The suspense thriller hails from directors Josh and Benny Safdie. Lakeith Stanfield, Kevin Garnett, and Idina Menzel also star.

The film bumped the previously record holder, Midsommar, with $11 million.
