Early renewal allows for the network to receive finished scripts before a possible writer’s strike could happen.

“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season,” said CW President Mark Pedowitz.

“We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman,” Pedowitz continued.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has already stated that the first episode of the season will be dedicated to Luke Perry.

The actor, who played Archie’s father Fred, passed away suddenly in March following a massive stroke. His absence was not addressed on the show, with Aguirre-Sacasa saying that the season 4 premiere would serve as a tribute episode.

It has now been confirmed that Perry’s dear friend and former Beverley Hills, 90210 co-star Doherty will guest star — something that Perry reportedly wanted from the first season.

“They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said ‘yes.’ It’s very impactful,” said Aguirre-Sacasa.

Season 4 of Riverdale will premiere on October 9th.

Luke Perry played Fred Andrews throughout The CW series’ three seasons.

On the 27th of February, the 52-year-old actor suffered a stroke while at his home in Los Angeles. He was rushed to hospital and suffered a second stroke, leading to his death on March 4th.

Luke’s passing came in the middle of Riverdale’s third season, with producers addressing his sudden absence by saying that Fred was away on business.

The devastating loss will be addressed in the forthcoming fourth season.

“When Luke passed, it was such a shock, and it was devastating and we kind of have to deal with the emotion of that, and then you have to figure out everything that comes next,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told E! Online.

“And we’d already pretty much plotted out the rest of the season. We’d written a bunch of the rest of the season, and it felt like rather than try to squeeze something — and for me, something that’s so monumental and so defining… and we didn’t know how we wanted to deal with it. You know, you’re just reacting. So we thought rather than do it quickly or do it wrong, let’s take our time, let’s figure it out, and let’s deal with it at the beginning of season four.”

Riverdale will return to The CW in the fall.

The ever-expanding universe of Archie Comics is set to expand once again — this time with a series focusing on a young fashion-legend-in-the-making.

There are already two shows featuring characters from the comics — Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina — with a pilot for Katy Keene having been ordered by The CW.

Set in New York City, the series will follow Katy, played by Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars, and three of her friends, who are all aspiring to make it big in the world of musical theater, fashion, and the pop charts.

The spin-off has been described as a musical dramedy, which is extremely different to Riverdale.

Let’s hope Katy Keene comes to life.

“It would so much less interesting if everything that fans wanted to happen on the show happened. I feel like the steam would run out really quickly. I think it is good that the writers continue for what they want — their vision. It is not anyone else’s vision,” she said.

Executive producer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, stated that they have to keep the mystery alive in the writer’s room and not through fan suggestions, to which Lili said, “I applaud you for doing that.”

Fans of The CW series can expect a much darker season 3 than previously seen as Archie faces his murder trial.

Lost in Oz actress, Gina Gershon, has been cast as Jughead’s mother, while Trinity Likins of Unspeakable will join the show as his sister.

All will be revealed when Riverdale returns on October 10th.
