Sheeran had a great year: his No. 6 Collaborations Project album was his third to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, he broke Billboard Boxscore records on his Divide Tour, and he topped the 2010s most-streamed song with “Shape of You.”

The singer decided it was time for a break. “Hello all. Gonna go on another break again. The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world. I’ve been a bit non stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write, and read. I’ll be off social media until it’s time to come back,” Sheeran wrote in a post.

It doesn’t look like Sheeran will be leaving the music industry for too long. “I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about,” he noted.

Ed Sheeran has announced that he plans to take a sabbatical from his music for the next year and a half.

The decision comes after an extremely long world tour, which has seen the “I Don’t Care” singer perform 250 shows in almost 50 countries since March 2017.

During that time, the 28-year-old also released a fourth studio album entitled No. 6 Collaborations Project, which features collabs with many artists such as Justin Bieber, Cardi B, Bruno Mars, Eminem, Camila Cabello, Khalid, and Chance the Rapper.

During the Divide Tour’s final show in Ipswich, England, Sheeran told the crowd, “This is my last gig for probably 18 months. I was told before I came on that, now, at the end of this tour, I’ve played to nine million people around the world. It is the biggest tour ever. It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years. It sounds odd but it has been a long tour.”

On his Instagram Stories, the Grammy winner confirmed that he is not retiring, saying, “I’m having 18 months off to make another album and hang out with my cats.”

Guess that means we’ll be listening to all his other albums on repeat until then.

The previous two Bond movies, Skyfall and Spectre, have seen Adele and Sam Smith both win Academy Awards for Best Original Song.

Daniel Craig, who will be making his final outing as 007, was reportedly introduced to Sheeran’s music by his daughter, Ella, and became a fan.

Craig’s love of the Suffolk singer has put him in consideration to pen and perform the theme song for the forthcoming feature, which has so far been titled Bond 25.

It is believed, however, that producers may prefer to go with a tried and tested favorite by bringing back Adele, whose track “Skyfall” picked up the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2013.

“The Best Part of Me is You” is the latest track released from the singer’s upcoming EP, No. 6 Collaborations Project.

In his own words, “This is a compilation album of artists that I am a fan of.”

The EP is set to feature collaborations with Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Khalid, Cardi B, and Chance the Rapper.

“The Best Part of Me is You” is a romantic duet featuring American singer-songwriter YEBBA that can’t help but conjure up images of your bae.

Sheeran also decided to release another single — this one featuring Bruno Mars and Chris Stapleton. The rock song, entitled “Blow,” includes lots of guitar, with Sheeran calling the production process fun.

“I loved making both records,” he said in a statement. “YEBBA is phenomenal, she’s onto massive things. Bruno, Chris and I had a lot of fun recording. Play them loud, tell your mates, enjoy.”

No. 6 Collaborations Project is out today, July 12th.

Earlier this month he wrote on Instagram, “I haven’t believed the truth about myself I haven’t believed I am loved.”

The 27-year-old has revealed that he still takes recommendations from friends when it comes to the latest tracks he should be checking out.

But he doesn’t always heed their advice so easily…

“It usually takes three people to get me to listen to something,” Ed told Dermot O’Leary at The London Irish Centre. “I remember someone told me to listen to Mumford & Sons, and I didn’t. Then another person did, and I didn’t, and then the third person I was like, ‘I should.’”

It’s safe to say that the singer has now been exposed to Marcus Mumford and his gang — in spite of not subscribing to streaming devices (like Spotify, where Shape of You has been played over 1.8 million times!)

Although not much as been revealed about the project as yet, it is believed to be set in a universe where The Beatles never existed (Help!) and has tentatively been titled All You Need is Love.

The release date has also been announced as September 13th, 2019.

The Oscar-winning director will be at the helm, while Love, Actually screenwriter Richard Curtis will pen the script. Cinderella actress Lily James, Himesh Patel of Eastenders, and Kate McKinnon from Saturday Night Live are expected to star.

Ed is known as a huge fan of the Fab Four and is said to be making an onscreen cameo in the film (check out Game of Thrones or Bridget Jones’ Baby if you want proof of his acting skills), as well as contribute to the film’s soundtrack.

Sounds like just another “Day in the Life” for the “Shape of You” singer.
