“Stranger Things” Star Gaten Matarazzo Shares His Favorite Fan Theory

The star of Stranger Things and host of Prank Encounters, Gaten Matarazzo, sat down with Variety to discuss some of his favorite fan theories of Stranger Things. Spoilers for Season 3 ahead!

Stranger Things Season 3 premiered on Netflix back in June, when the town of Hawkins, Indiana is threatened with a new evil force: Russian scientists. The crew, along with Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour) and Will’s mom Joyce (Winona Ryder), manage to save the town, but this time they have lost a lot. In an attempt to have a fresh start away from the Upside Down world, some of the characters decide to leave Hawkins.

The final episode of the season left fans with more questions than answers about what’s next for the cast, and viewers have been sharing their theories on social media.

Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin, said he likes to read them from time to time, “They’re all interesting. My favorite theory is that Suzie’s actually a Russian mastermind and spy working with the Russian government. I think it’s so stupid and so funny. I hope that doesn’t play out because that would be weird.”

Here’s what Matarazzo sees of Dustin’s future: “It’s really hard to say because I don’t really know where the characters are going. He’s flapping in the wind at this point. At the end of the season, all the kids are divided because everyone moves away from Hawkins. Eleven goes with Will and Joyce to try and find some type of peace, and the rest of the gang stays behind. I don’t necessarily know how that’s going to work. I mean Mike and El being separated is crazy. I think fans are going to freak out,” Matarazzo told Variety.

There has been no release date set for Season 4, but production is scheduled to start in January.
