“Shrill” Renewed for Season 2

Aidy Bryant in "Shrill"

Hulu’s newest comedy, Shrill, will be back for a second season.

The streaming giant has put in a second season order for the comedy one month after the series made its debut. The series’ sophomore run will span eight episodes, two more than the first season.

The show is based on Lindy West’s 2016 memoir Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman and stars Saturday Night Live‘s Aidy Bryant. Bryant, West, and Alexandra Rushfield co-wrote the adaptation.

The series follows Annie (Bryant), an overweight young woman who wants to change her life, but not her body. While trying to start her career as a journalist, Annie juggles bad boyfriends, sick parents and a perfectionist boss. Despite the world around her deeming her not good enough because of her weight, Annie starts to realize that she’s as good as anyone else, and acts on it.

Lolly Adefope, Luka Jones, Ian Owens and John Cameron Mitchell starred in the first season.

Shrill is expected to return in 2020.
