Grey’s Anatomy alum Katherine Heigl will be replacing Meghan Markle on Suits, as reported by BBC News. Heigl will join the cast for Season 8 as Samantha Wheeler, a new partner in the Pearson Specter Litt law firm.
Heigl is apparently an “immense fan” who has “watched Suits from the very beginning”. The series’ return for Season 8 was somewhat surprising, given that two main actors left (Markle and Patrick J. Adams).
Emmy-winning Heigl, who left Grey’s Anatomy in 2010 to concentrate on her film career, has since starred in a pair of short-lived TV dramas, NBC’s State of Affairs and, more recently, CBS’ Doubt.
Besides Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle, Suits could also lose Gina Torres, since a spinoff focusing on her character is in works by Aaron Korsh who created the original.
The filming will start in a few months in Toronto. The premiere of the new season is expected by the end of 2018.
