James Cameron should know—you never mess with the Marvel universe.

The Avatar director told IndieWire this week, “I’m hoping we’ll start getting Avenger fatigue here pretty soon. Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on guys, there are other stories to tell besides hyper-gonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process. It’s like, oy!”

“Oy” is right because the Oscar winner has now enraged one of the internet’s most feared entities—Marvel fans.

Twitter erupted with members of the fan base inquiring just why Cameron will soon be releasing 4 sequels to Avatar if he is so keen for “other stories.”

Thankfully though, Marvel head Kevin Feige didn’t take the comment too seriously, telling Vulture, “Uh, he loves the movies! That’s awesome! Wow, James Cameron loves our movies! That’s exciting!”

Did anyone think that just maybe Cameron is more of a DC fan…?
