Are you as curious about the forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel as we are?

George R. R. Martin is here for us!

The author of A Song of Ice and Fire, who is also writing and executive producing the prequel, spoke to Entertainment Weekly, where be revealed how many kingdoms we can expect, which families will appear, and title possibilities.

While no official name has been locked down as yet (though Blood Moon seems to be the working title), Martin has put his hand up for The Long Night.

“I heard a suggestion that it could be called The Longest Night, which is a variant I wouldn’t mind,” he said.

What we do know about the prequel is that it is set around 5,000 years prior to the events in Game of Thrones, when the altercation with the White Walkers went down.

But that’s not to say that we won’t get to see our favorite families.

“The Starks will definitely be there,” Martin said. “The Lannisters aren’t there yet, but Casterly Rock is certainly there; it’s like the Rock of Gibraltar. It’s actually occupied by the Casterlys — for whom it’s still named after in the time of Game of Thrones.

According to Martin, there will be far more kingdoms than the 7 in GOT.

“If you go back further, then there are nine kingdoms, and 12 kingdoms, and eventually you get back to where there are a hundred kingdoms — petty kingdoms — and that’s the era we’re talking about here.”

The prequel is currently filming in Northern Ireland, while Martin is (still) writing the 6th Ice and Fire novel. Hooray!
