Helen Mirren Makes Stephen Colbert Cry

There is a reason that Helen Mirren has an Academy Award and 3 more nominations to her name.

The Dame is revered for her acting prowess, which, apparently, can even move late night talk show hosts to shed a tear or two.

Whilst making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the pair got into a discussion about what triggers their waterworks. While the British actress admitted to getting teary-eyed over weddings (who doesn’t!), Stephen’s emotional cue was slightly more poetic.

The 53-year-old comedian proved that he has a sensitive side in between making audiences laugh when he confessed to the Winchester Star that the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson hits him right in the feels.

And so, Miss Mirren obliged, by performing a dramatic reading of the piece as only an Oscar-winning Dame can.

Once she had finished, Stephen — who appeared to visibly be holding back tears — told Helen, “You got me,” to which the 72-year-old replied, “Made me cry too.”

We’re not crying; you’re crying.
