Elton John has announced that he is pushing back his Saturday night concert in Indianapolis back to 2020. The announcement came following the news that John’s mother-in-law, Gladys Furnish, passed.

John revealed the news on social media in a candid message to his fans. He wrote: “To my dear fans in Indianapolis: It is with the heaviest heart that I’m forced to deliver the news that I am extremely unwell and therefore unable to perform at Bankers Life Fieldhouse tonight.”

He continued: “I absolutely hate to let my fans down, but I owe it to you to put on the best show possible and unfortunately that’s simply not possible. The date will be rearranged for March 2020, and I promise I will deliver the show you deserve. Thank you so much for your support and understanding… Elton x.”

Earlier this week, John shared another social media post in which he paid tribute to his late mother-in-law. In the post, he described Gladys as a woman with “patient wisdom and bountiful love.”

It’s unclear how John’s remaining tour dates will be affected by the tragedy. As it stands, the next show is scheduled to take place on Monday (October 28) at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
