Sometimes dreams do come true!
Ellen DeGeneres celebrated her birthday at the end of January, but it seems that the birthday presents just keep coming.
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi traveled to Africa last week for a trip of a lifetime. The trip was part of Portia’s gift to her wife, which she announced February on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
The daytime TV host was gifted a Wildlife Fund in her name, that supports conservation efforts for endangered animals for her 60th birthday. Ellen, who has always followed and admired Dian Fossey, was also gifted The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
“Ellen, you will carry on Dian’s legacy by giving them a permanent home in Rwanda,” de Rossi announced. “Now, you will join Dian as a protector and champion of these amazing animals, the mountain gorillas. Happy birthday!”
“That is the best gift anyone could have given me,” DeGeneres said at the time.
Finally came the time to visit what was set up in Ellen’s name and the couple flew to Rwanda to meet Dr. Tara Stoinski, president of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. In a video shared by Ellen she says “Today is here! We’re landing in Rwanda to go look at the gorillas and to go help them and build a campus.”
Ellen was so grateful after finding the gorilla, writing, “spending time with these gorillas changed my life.” Ellen captioned another photo of the two with “This was a trip I’ve been waiting my whole life to make.”
