Danny Boyle Hints at a Sequel to “28 Days Later”

Cillian Murphy in "28 Days Later..."

28 Days Later turned into more like 17 years later, but we might finally be getting another sequel to the infamous cult film.

The 2002 zombie horror flick from Danny Boyle proved to not only be a hit with audiences, but also received praise from critics.

28 Days Later sees a young man awaking from a coma to find that a virus has turned everyone into zombies. We think we’d want to go back to bed…

Following its success, a sequel entitled 28 Weeks Later, which was set weeks later and did not include the original cast, was released in 2007, but sadly did not garner the same response.

Twelve years later, however, Boyle has revealed that he and screenwriter Alex Garland may have something up their sleeves…

“Alex Garland and I have a wonderful idea for the third part,” the Yesterday director told The Independent. “It’s properly good.”

Boyle continued, “The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in the zombie drama and it doesn’t reference any of that. It doesn’t feel stale at all. [Garland’s] concentrating on directing his own work at the moment, so it’s stood in abeyance really, but it’s a you-never-know.”

Better late than never!
