“Birds of Prey” and “The Gentlemen” to Be Released Digitally Early

Trying to minimize losses and help people who are staying at home, and with cinemas closed due to the spread of the contravirus, studios have begun to release movies to home entertainment early.

The latest movies to be made available to digital purchase early are Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey and STX’s The Gentlemen.

The two movies will be made available on March 24th, making it 46 days after Birds of Prey’s theatrical release and 60 days after The Gentlemen’s. Typically movies are made available to digital purchase after about 74 days. Then after 88 days movies are available for digital rental and regular home entertainment.

Birds of Prey director, Cathy Yan commented on NBCUniversal’s similar decision to release The Invisible Man, The Hunt, and Emma early for digital purchase on Twitter.

“I would not be opposed to putting Birds of Prey on VOD earlier,” she said.

These early releases join Disney’s announcement last week about Frozen II being available early on Disney+ and the early digital release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
