Yup, it’s official. Bill Murray will be returning as Dr. Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 2020.
Ever since the news of the long-overdue Ghostbusters sequel was announced, the question on everyone’s minds has been which of the original cast members will return. Now, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the OG Ghostbusters legend will be making his “who you gonna call?” comeback.
Co-star Dan Aykroyd shared the news in an interview with The Gregg Hill Show. He also shared that director Jason Reitman has written “a beautiful, heartfelt script that takes the real DNA from the first two movies and transfers that directly to the third, the next generation. It hands the legacy off to a new generation of stars, and players, and actors, and characters.”
The sequel is set in the same universe as the 80s Ghostbusters movies. Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver will also be reprising their roles alongside Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. New cast members include Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon.
Ghostbusters 2020 will be released in movie theaters on July 10.
