Elizabeth Taylor led a fascinating life.

While many merely remember the Cat on a Hot Tin Roof actress’s numerous marriages, she was also a passionate activist for HIV/AIDS awareness, co-founding the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

That aspect of Taylor’s life is now set to be explored in a new biographical film entitled A Special Relationship from directing duo Bert & Bertie.

The film is being penned by Slumdog Millionaire writer, Simon Beaufoy, and will focus on the actress’s relationship with her gay personal assistant which led to her activism for the disease which was ignored at the time during the mid-80s.

Playing Taylor, who was considered during her peak to be the most beautiful woman in the world, will be The Favourite star, Rachel Weisz.

“Audiences are clearly fascinated by the private lives of iconic Hollywood stars. There is no one more iconic than Elizabeth Taylor and Simon Beaufoy has written a role that shines a light on Elizabeth’s humour and humanity which will be beautifully brought to life through the extraordinary talents of Rachel Weisz,” See-Saw Films’ Canning and Sherman said in a statement. “At its heart, A Special Relationship is a story of friendship… a celebration of how friendships can change people’s lives, and how Elizabeth helped change the world.”
