There was always going to be massive pressure on the eighth season of Game of Thrones, but it looks like the show has delivered the goods.

The final season of the award-winning series has gotten people excited for months, as the show finally whittles down to who will survive the White Walkers and who will eventually sit on the Iron Throne.

All that excitement has now paid off, with HBO releasing viewership figures for the premiere.

The first episode of season 8 garnered 17.4 million viewers on Sunday night, across all platforms, including linear, HBOGO, and HBO NOW. The figure has set a multi-platform record.

Game of Thrones has consistently increased its numbers when it comes to premieres, starting with just 9.3 million viewers for the first season and 25.7 million for the seventh.

Considering it’s the final season premiere, we say it’s a pretty good way to bow out.
