Belfast and The Power of the Dog are two of the movies receiving the most Oscar buzz this year, and the list of Golden Globe nominations confirmed their status as front-runners. Both projects received seven nominations, while Succession led the TV field with five.

Belfast and The Power of the Dog will be going head to head in one of the ceremony’s major categories, the best motion picture – drama. They’re in the running for this award together with CODA, King Richard, and Dune, in addition to competing in several more categories against each other.

When it comes to the comedy/musical side, Don’t Look Up and West Side Story are at the forefront of the race, with five nominations each. Cyrano, Licorice Pizza, and Tick Tick Boom are also among the top contenders, as they all received a nod for the best motion picture – comedy or musical.

The TV side is also pretty crowded, with the former Golden Globe winner, Succession, leading the way. The list of major contenders also includes Ted Lasso and The Morning Show with four nominations and The Great, Hacks, Maid, Squid Game, and Only Murders in the Building with three each.

Golden Globes are returning on January 9th, 2022 but the format of the ceremony remains a mystery after recent HFPA boycotts.
