The Watchmen are coming and Jeremy Irons is joining them.

HBO has decided to commission a pilot based on the 1986 comic book series by Alan Moore.

The story, which follows an alternate reality in which superheroes are regarded as outlaws, was adapted into a feature-length film by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director, Zack Snyder, in 2009.

The television project is expected to be entirely separate from the film, and be created by Lost writer, Damon Lindelof, who has described it as a “remix”.
