Watch: Eddie Murphy Returns to Form in Netflix’s “Dolemite Is My Name”

Eddie Murphy in "Dolemite Is My Name"

Rudy Ray Moore, the famous comedian and Blaxplotation filmmaker, will get his story told in the new Netflix film Dolemite Is My Name, and judging by the trailer — we are in for a wild ride.

Moore’s character will be portrayed by none other than Eddie Murphy, who is returning to form after years of unstable outings in dramatic roles alongside voice acting as an animated donkey.

The trailer shows the invention of the Dolemite alter ego, a Kung Fu fighting pimp, which was a way for Moore to revitalize his struggling career as a comedian. We also see Murphy using his soon to be catchphrase — “Dolemite is my name, and f***g up mother****s is my game.”

The comedy, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, features an all-star cast including Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Snoop Dogg, Tituss Burgess, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Keegan-Michael Key, Chris Rock and T.I.

Dolemite Is My Name is just the beginning for the comedian, as Netflix is reportedly close to signing a $70 million deal with Murphy to return to stand up comedies. The actor is also presently making Coming to America 2.
