This is Why The Joker is Not in “Birds of Prey”

Margot Robbie in "Suicide Squad"

The Joker and Harley Quinn will be no strangers to fans of DC Comics.

The couple are two of Batman’s greatest foes and almost always come in a pair. But not this time.

2019 was a big year for The Joker with Joaquin Phoenix playing the villain in a film of the same name. Now it’s Harley Quinn’s time, as Margot Robbie will be embodying the former Arkham Asylum psychologist in Harley’s first solo film.

The Bombshell actress will reprise her role from Suicide Squad in Birds Of Prey And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn, but The Joker will be nowhere to be found.

Jared Leto starred as the supervillain opposite Robbie in David Ayer’s original film, but the Australian actress says he will not appear in the spin-off, so as not to detract from Miss Quinn.

“It was either going to be a complete Harley and Joker story or Joker has got to be out of the picture,” she said. “I really wanted to see Harley in a girl gang, and I felt there was a huge gap in the market for a girl gang ensemble action film. I felt like no one was going that and couldn’t understand why, especially a comic book movie.”

Birds of Prey is set for release on January 29th
