The premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was a long time coming and this epic fantasy show made quite an impression with its first two episodes. 25 million viewers tuned in to watch, making this the biggest premiere for any show in Amazon Prime history.

Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke called this a proud moment for their streaming service and expressed gratitude to everyone involved. In addition to thanking the Tolkien Estate, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew, she also singled out the fans for making this possible.

“It is the tens of millions of fans watching – clearly as passionate about Middle-earth as we are – who are our true measure of success,” said Salke in a statement.

The first two episodes of The Rings of Power premiered on September 1 across the globe—and there’s more on the way! The first season will feature a total of eight episodes, set to premiere weekly, and Amazon already greenlit the second season.

The Rings of Power takes us back to Middle-earth’s Second Age, thousands of years before the events of Tolkien’s original trilogy. It introduces us to many interesting characters, both familiar and new, as they try to fight the rise of evil in Middle-earth.
