“The Nutty Professor” Reboot is the Works

Jerry Lewis in "The Nutty Professor"

It looks like we’ll be getting another The Nutty Professor reboot.

The production company behind Scream 5, Project X, will be working on the reboot to Jerry Lewis’ 1963 comedy in which he directed from a script he co-wrote with Bill Richmond, which was a parody of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Lewis also starred in the film playing a nerdy college professor who concocts a potion to make his life better and he turns into a handsome man named Buddy Love, who ends up pursuing one of his students played by Stella Stevens.

The Nutty Professor is regarded as one of Lewis’ most memorable films of his long career. It was so successful that it was rebooted in 1996 with Eddie Murphy starring as the professor. Murphy also played the alter ego Love and five of the professor’s family members and Jada Pinkett Smith starred in the reboot. The film was a huge box office success and was later made into a sequel in 2000 titled The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

No other details have been released about the project yet.
