The post Scarlett Johansson Will Be Honored the American Cinematheque Award appeared first on TheDailyDay.
]]>The award is handed out by the nonprofit cultural organization American Cinematheque on an annual basis since 1986. It honors “extraordinary artists” in the entertainment industry who are “committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion pictures.”
Johansson will join a star-studded list of previous recipients that includes Eddy Murphy, Bette Midler, Jodie Foster, Samuel L. Jackson, and Charlize Theron, among others. Director Spike Lee was the most recent honoree, receiving the award for 2020 at a virtual presentation back in January.
American Cinematheque board chair Rick Nicita said in a statement that Johansson’s career “embodies the essence of the American Cinematheque Award” while adding that “her immense talent has shone brightly from her movie debut as a child through her emergence as a megastar of blockbusters.”
Scarlett Johansson made her acting debut at 10 years old in the 1994 comedy-drama North and has since established herself as one of the brightest talents of her generation. She has been both a critics-darling and a big box office draw, starring in independent and less-prominent movies as well as blockbuster hits.
Johansson’s most prominent works include Lost in Translation, for which she received BAFTA award as Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2003, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Prestige, Marriage Story, and Jojo Rabbit. She is best known to the wider audience as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

]]>The Golden Globes kick off festivities every year, with this year’s ceremony taking place even earlier than usual on January 5. The Beverley Hills Hilton will be the venue for the glitzy event, which is often regarded as an office party, where everyone gets a little tipsy thanks to the bottles of booze on the tables.Â
Ricky Gervais will be returning to hosting duties, even though he swore he never would (he promises that this is definitely his last time…), but the night is renowned for having various celebrities grace the stage to present awards.
This year’s batch is set to include Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Tiffany Haddish, Charlize Theron, Will Ferrell, Tim Allen, Christian Bale, Antonio Banderas, Jason Bateman, Cate Blanchett, Matt Bomer, Pierce Brosnan, Glenn Close, Daniel Craig, Ted Danson, Ansel Elgort, Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Lauren Graham, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Elton John, Nick Jonas, Zoe Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, Rami Malek, Kate McKinnon, Jason Momoa, Helen Mirren, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Poehler, Margot Robbie, Paul Rudd, Wesley Snipes, Octavia Spencer, Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington, Naomi Watts, and Rachel Weisz.

]]>Earlier this month, the Avengers: Infinity War actress was cast in the forthcoming film, Rub & Tug, which tells the story of transgender male, Dante “Tex” Gill, who was a crime kingpin who used his massage parlor as a front for prostitution in the ’70s and ’80s.
The casting of Scarlett in the role drew condemnation from various transgender groups who wondered why a female actress had been selected to play the part when transgender actors and actresses are present in Hollywood.
Trace Lysette, known for Transparent, wrote on Twitter: “Oh word?? So you can continue to play us but we can’t play Y’all?”

At the time, a representative for Scarlett said, “Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment,” in reference to other actors who have played trans characters.
The 33-year-old has now withdrawn from the Rupert Sanders-helmed project, telling Out Magazine, “While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film. I believe that all artists should be considered equally and fairly.”
