The Avengers series as we know it may be reaching its conclusion, but one of its stars is about to embark on her own solo journey.

A stand-alone film for Black Widow has been in the works for quite a while, but the picture seems to be finally taking shape.

Scarlett Johansson will, of course, star as the titular character, whose real name is Natasha Romanoff. The film is expected to explore her origins as a Russian spy.

Johansson will now be joined by Rachel Weisz, David Harbour, and Florence Pugh.

Marvel has remained quiet on which roles the newly-added trio will be playing, but it is possible that The Favourite actress and Stranger Things star could take on the position of villains. The Fighting with My Family actress is believed to be playing another spy.

Cate Shortland of Berlin Syndrome will be directing Black Widow, which has no release date as yet.
