The series will follow aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II trying to get their big break in show business. Dylan McDermott plays Ernie, a gas station owner who runs a secret call boy operation, but has big dreams of making it in Hollywood. Veteran Jack, played by David Cornenswet, has similar dreams, but ends up at Ernie’s secret operation.

Previously described as “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown,” by Murphy, the series will take a deeper look into Hollywood’s race, gender, and sexuality biases as well as power dynamics within the business. “The characters who had been, and in the real world would continue to be, beaten down have great moments of victory and of aspiration,” Brennan told Variety.

Also starring in the series are Darren Criss, Jeremy Pope, Laura Harrier, Samama Weaving, Holland Taylor, Patti LuPone, Jim Parsons, Jake Picking, Joe Mantello, Maude Apatow, Rob Reiner, Mira Sorvino, and Michelle Krusiec.

Hollywood will be Murphy’s third project with Netflix, he previously did The Politician and Ratched.

The forthcoming tenth installment of the hit horror franchise has added Macaulay Culkin to its cast. 

Murphy’s video announcement, shared on Instagram, featured the new and returning cast members, confirming that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be coming back for this season of the FX show. Kathy Bates, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross and Finn Wittrock will also star in season 10. 

Culkin most recently appeared as a guest star on the comedy Dollface. The AHS role will mark his first regular role in a TV series.

The tenth installment of the Ryan Murphy franchise will see the return of veteran star Paulson as a “central character.” The news was confirmed by the actress herself to reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour last week. 

“I can confirm that I will be in next season,” Paulson said. “I have no idea what it will be… But I’m not coming back as a guest part, I will be a central character.”

In other AHS news: the horror anthology has been renewed for three additional seasons, which means it’ll run until at least season 13. But what about Paulson, will she star in those too?

“God willing, I have no idea,” she said. “But I do know that I did ask Ryan, if the question was asked to me, could I say that I was coming back? And he said, ‘Yes, you can say.’ So yes, I will be back on American Horror Story.”

“I was a little shocked at the idea that a television miniseries could change the future of our country,” said creator Ryan Murphy. “But I have to say I really do understand people’s sensitivities and I feel like that was just a placeholder to us and we’ve not committed yet on when we’re going to release it.”

It has already been announced that the upcoming season will focus on the impeachment of former US President Bill Clinton, following the affair he had with White House staff member Monica Lewinsky.

Beanie Feldman of Booksmart will play the intern, while Sarah Paulson and Annaleigh Ashford will also star.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story actor will be teaming up with Ryan Murphy for a third time as the latter brings his new series Hollywood to Netflix.

“Honored to say that I’m heading back to the House of Murphy where I’ll be starring in but also executive producing HOLLYWOOD with Time’s King of Television,” wrote Criss in an Instagram post.

“Late last year, [Ryan Murphy] and I had dinner where he shared that he wanted to do a period piece that was young and optimistic. We landed on the idea of a series covering several narratives from 1940s Hollywood. We both left that evening feeling super excited about its potential. Two days later Netflix bought it. Not only is that a testament to the magic of Ryan Murphy, it’s a reminder of the kind of thing that can only happen in Hollywood… literally. Limited Series coming to [Netflix] May 2020.”

While Criss’s casting has been confirmed, Holland Taylor and Patti LuPone are also rumored to star.

In an interview with Time magazine, Ryan Murphy divulged the slew of projects he’s currently working on, and it’s a lot. 

The prolific producer’s next slate of projects includes original series, small-screen musical adaptations and docuseries all under his $300 million overall deal with Netflix. 

Here’s (some) of what’s coming: 

An adaptation of the 1976 Broadway musical, A Chorus Line. The 10-part mini-series will tell the iconic story of a group of Broadway dancers, their struggles and aspirations. 

A limited drama about famed fashion designer Halston, with Ewan McGregor playing the designer.

A project that will feature Jessica Lange. “Jessica Lange and I are working on a piece about Marlene Dietrich in Vegas in the early ’60s,” he told the outlet. “But I’m so booked. When am I going to do it? I don’t know.” 

A 10-part series about artist Andy Warhol. 

Finally, he confirmed that Patti LuPone has joined his first original series for the streaming giant. Hollywood will ”look at Hollywood and the sex industry, and how absolutely everything has changed and nothing has changed.”

Murphy moved his overall deal from 20th Century Fox TV to Netflix in early 2018.

The American Horror Story producer is planning to adapt the stage musical The Prom for a broader audience on Netflix.

Murphy will both direct and executive produce the project, which boasts a rather phenomenal cast.

Among those who will be getting their corsages in order are Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Ariana Grande, James Corden, Awkwafina, Kegan-Michael Key, and Andrew Rannells.

The story revolves around a big musical which flops leading to the actors involved deciding to support a high school girl who can’t go to her prom because she is gay.

“The Prom is one of the most uplifting, heartfelt and special musicals I have ever seen on Broadway. It’s truly an original that celebrates the underdog and says in a loving spectacular way that LGBTQ rights are human rights,” Murphy stated previously on Instagram.

This is not the first time that many of the cast have acted alongside one another. Streep and Kidman are currently starring opposite each other in Big Little Lies, while Streep and Corden were both in Into the Woods.

The Prom will premiere in 2020.

Fans were treated Sunday to their first peek of the shows leading ladies from the set. Murphy took to Instagram sharing a photo of Sarah Paulson as Cordelia and Lily Rabe as Misty and Stevie Nicks in their witchy glory. Later, he took to Twitter and shared an image featuring the entire gang from American Horror Story: Coven — Paulson, Rabe, Nicks, Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, Gabourney Sidibe, and Taissa Farmiga alongside the caption, “The Coven Returns. In March, a pair of “fans” filmed a 45 minutes long video based on the conspiracy theory that the 31 year old is illiterate, and alleging they possessed “proof.”

The so-called evidence included Lea having “to learn, like, four words for her role in Ragtime” and “Ryan Murphy knows the secret, and she only works with him because he reads her her lines and she remembers them.”

Lea addressed the bizarre and bemusing clip during Watch What Happens Live when asked about it by Andy Cohen.

“I woke up one day and all of a sudden all online, someone had made like a conspiracy video trying to prove that I can’t read or write. It’s the most bizarre thing that has ever happened in my life,” she said.

The actress even offered Murphy’s take on the conspiracy: Not only do I have to memorize pages and pages, they said that Ryan Murphy would have to read the lines to me. Ryan called me. He’s like, ‘Do people think that I have the time in my life to come and do this?’”

So, let’s confirm that literacy can definitely be added to Lea’s skills list.
