]]>When South African Glori Nelson walked down the aisle last week, she did it with the talk show host by her side.
You see, Glori had been one of the students at Oprah’s Leadership Academy for Girls in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Now all grown up, she remains close to the woman who helped shape her life and involved her in her big day as much as possible.
Before heading down the aisle, Oprah helped out with wedding dress shopping.
“I’ve known these girls since they were 12 and 13 coming to my school. Graduating from college. Grad school. Now our first wedding. Looking for the perfect dress. #biglifemoment,” Oprah wrote alongside a picture of Glori and her friends in a bridal shop.
On the day, the 65-year-old media mogul stood by her former student’s side as she walked to meet her groom.
“My three mama bears walked me down the aisle,” the bride wrote on Instagram. “One walked me in spirit. I lost my mum when I was ten and her spirit gained me to them. A praying mum, dead or alive, is sooooo powerful!”
Congratulations!

]]>33 years after film audiences were introduced to Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple, history is scheduled to repeat itself.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning work about African-American women in the American South during the early 1900s was directed for the screen by Steven Spielberg and starred Oprah Winfrey, Danny Glover, and Whoopi Goldberg.
Since then, it has been adapted into a stage musical which has starred American Idol winner, Fantasia Barrino, and Dreamgirls actress, Jennifer Hudson, throughout its various runs.
Spielberg, Winfrey, and producer Quincy Jones are now reportedly adapting the musical version for the screen.
The stage production has won 3 Tony Awards while the film did not take home any of the 11 Academy Awards for which it was nominated.
Perhaps it will be second time lucky…

]]>30 years ago, double Oscar winner Tom Hanks and My Big Fat Greek Wedding actress Rita Wilson said “I do.”
The couple initially met on the set of Bosom Buddies in the early 80s while Tom was still with his first wife Samantha Lewes, with whom he has 2 children—Life in Pieces actor Colin Hanks and journalist Elizabeth Hanks.
Following his divorce in 1987, The Post star converted to Greek Orthodoxy—the religion in which Rita was raised—prior to their marriage in 1988.
Three decades and two kids (Chet and Truman) later, Mr. and Mrs. Hanks have much reason to celebrate their happy union.
And so, the couple held a party on Saturday night which was filled with Hollywood alumni, including fellow couple Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, Tom’s hockey pal Martin Short, talk show hosts Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel, the almighty Oprah Winfrey, and even former President of the United States Barack Obama.
Here’s to another 30!
