]]>House of the Dragon kicked off with King Viserys on the throne, and his first-born daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen as his heir apparent, but the atmosphere shifted as the episodes went by. The first season concluded with King Viserys’s death and Rhaenyra’s claim for the Iron Throne in jeopardy.
Queen Alicent Hightower conspired to have her son Aegon II Targaryen crowned as King Viserys’s successor, but not everyone in the Seven Kingdoms accepted this decision idly. Rhaenyra decided to fight for what’s rightfully hers, kicking off the war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy will lead Season 2 as Alicent and Rhaenyra, and they’ll be joined by Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and Tom Glynn-Carney, along with several new cast members including Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, and Abubakar Salim.
HBO ordered eight new episodes of the second season of House of the Dragon, set to premiere in mid-2024.

]]>Because Game of Thrones was such a success, it was no surprise that HBO decided to produce spin-offs of the hit series. While the network cancelled one of the potential shows in October last year, another, which is set to focus on House Targaryen, is still in the works.
House of the Dragon will be set many years before the Westeros to which we were introduced, meaning that most of the characters we’ve come to love will not be around. And that includes the Queen of the North.
Sophie Turner, who played the second of the Stark children throughout the series’ 8 seasons, has said that she has no plans to appear in the prequel.
“I would give anything to go back to what we had, but it wouldn’t be the same. It would be different; different people running it. I don’t want to be a part of it. Unless they give me the big bucks I’m not doing it!” she joked.
The GOT prequel is expected around 2022.
