The first season of House of the Dragon offered first glimpses of the fall of House Targaryen, and we’re finally getting closer to the main event! The first teaser trailer for the second season of the Game of Thrones prequel is here, and it teases a great divide between the members of the Targaryen family.

House of the Dragon kicked off with King Viserys on the throne, and his first-born daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen as his heir apparent, but the atmosphere shifted as the episodes went by. The first season concluded with King Viserys’s death and Rhaenyra’s claim for the Iron Throne in jeopardy.

Queen Alicent Hightower conspired to have her son Aegon II Targaryen crowned as King Viserys’s successor, but not everyone in the Seven Kingdoms accepted this decision idly. Rhaenyra decided to fight for what’s rightfully hers, kicking off the war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy will lead Season 2 as Alicent and Rhaenyra, and they’ll be joined by Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and Tom Glynn-Carney, along with several new cast members including Gayle Rankin, Simon Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, and Abubakar Salim.

HBO ordered eight new episodes of the second season of House of the Dragon, set to premiere in mid-2024.
