]]>Nomadland was crowned as the biggest winner of the night when it walked away with the best picture Oscar, but this wasn’t its only big victory. Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color and only the second female filmmaker to win the best director award, while Frances McDormand collected her third best actress Oscar.
Zhao and McDormand weren’t the only ones making history at this year’s Oscars. Anthony Hopkins picked up the best actor trophy for his performance in The Father, becoming the oldest winner in this category. Youn Yuh-jung (Minari) made history as the first Korean woman to win the Oscar for the best-supporting actress, while Daniel Kaluuya won the best-supporting actor award for his portrayal of Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Sound of Metal, Soul, and Mank were also amongst the major winners, with two trophies each, mostly in technical categories. Emerald Fennell also had a reason to celebrate after picking up the Oscar for the best original screenplay for Promising Young Woman, while Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round was crowned as the best international feature film.
The 93rd Academy Awards aired from Union Station and Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on April 25th.

]]>Among them you’ll find names such as Saoirse Ronan, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Adrien Brody, Benicio Del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, Léa Seydoux, and Timothée Chalamet.
The movie, which will premiere on July 24th, 2020, has a complicated plot.
“[It’s about an] American journalist based in France [who] creates his magazine. It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what’s going on in the real world,” Anderson said.
The film’s release date hints at a possible premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival – a festival that Anderson has not participated in since 2012’s Moonrise Kingdom. His last two films debuted at the Berlin Film Festival.

The French Dispatch has been described as “a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city.”
The Isle of Dogs filmmaker also wrote the feature, whose full title is The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun.
Benicio Del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Elisabeth Moss, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Kate Winslet, Jeffrey Wright, Bill Murray, and Owen Wilson have all been announced as part of the cast.
FOX Searchlight is distributing the film and has now confirmed its release date as July 24th.

Sounds whacky enough for Anderson.
Fox Searchlight has now acquired the worldwide rights to the film, entitled The French Dispatch, and has described it as “a love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in The French Dispatch magazine.”
“We are excited to dive back into the unmistakable and entirely original world of Wes Anderson,” said the chairmen of Fox Searchlight Pictures, Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley, in a statement. “Our collaborations with Wes in the past have been exceptional, and we’re thrilled to be back working with him and the Indian Paintbrush team on The French Dispatch.”
Anderson will once again team up with his favorite actors for the film, including Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Benicio Del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux, Mathieu Amalric, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Park, and Owen Wilson.
The French Dispatch is expected in 2020.

]]>Typically, when it is claimed that someone was “robbed of an Oscar”, it means something a little different than this…
You’d think that on Hollywood’s biggest night, with security — and paparazzi — swarming around, it would probably be a rather bad idea to try to commit a crime.
But, one guy definitely had the gall to attempt anyway.
Once all the winners have been announced and the acceptance speeches made at the Oscars ceremony itself, the industry’s elite makes their way to the Governors Ball to party the night away.
The little statuettes which have been won just a few hours before usually join the festivities, as stars mingle with each other and take selfies with Hollywood’s most famous man.
Best Actress winner, Frances McDormand, almost had her little guy snatched away, however, when she set him down for a minute whilst talking to someone.
The photographer for chef Wolfgang Puck, who always caters the annual event, caught the potential thief in the act and took back the Oscar. The assailant — now identified as Terry Bryant — then left the party after Frances said to let him go, before being arrested for grand theft.
Security at the Governors Ball are looking for this guy, who grabbed Frances McDormand’s Oscar and ran out with it. Wolfgang Puck’s photographer stopped him, got the Oscar back, and the guy disappeared back into the ball. Apparently Frances has said to let him go. #Oscars #Drama pic.twitter.com/5tlsx4Ulwt
