The CW has given early renewals to 13 scripted show, including new shows Batwoman and Nancy Drew.

Also being renewed are All American, Black Lightning, Charmed, DC’S Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, The Flash, In the Dark, Legacies, Riverdale, Supergirl and Roswell, New Mexico. The CW renewed In the Dark, Roswell, and Legends of Tomorrow before their current seasons premiered; they are still in production.

Early renewal allows for the network to receive finished scripts before a possible writer’s strike could happen.

“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season,” said CW President Mark Pedowitz.

“We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman,” Pedowitz continued.

Many shows are returning to The CW this fall, including some new ones.

During the spring, the network ordered full seasons for Batwoman, Nancy Drew, and Katy Keene.

Premiere dates for the first two series have now been announced for the first two weeks of October.

Ruby Rose’s incarnation of Batwoman will hit screens on October 6th. The cousin of Bruce Wayne attempts to save Gotham three years after Batman disappears and must do so while battling her own inner demons, which include a complicated family and feelings for her ex-girlfriend.

The remake of Nancy Drew will arrive three days later. The team behind Gossip Girl — Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage — are producing the series, which stars Kennedy McCann as the titular character. The first season will revolve around the murder of a local socialite, with Nancy as one of the prime suspects.

The date for the Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene, has not yet been announced. It is set to star Lucy Hale as one of four friends who venture to New York City to follow their dreams.

We may not have seen the last of Jane Gloriana Villaenueva…

Jane the Virgin is wrapping up this year after being on air for 5 seasons.

While it was originally hoped that the telenovela would continue in the form of a spin-off, the series was not picked up by The CW.

Entitled Jane the Telenovela, the show would focus on the characters in Jane’s novel and be narrated by Gina Rodriguez.

The reason it wasn’t ordered to series, according to CW President Mark Pedowitz, is that it “did not have what Jane had. It didn’t have the full quirkiness and fun. We are big fans of [show creator] Jennie Urman and Gina, and we have great appreciation for what they did. In this particular situation, this spinoff didn’t quite get to where we wanted it to get to.”

But Pedowitz is not ruling out a return in the future…

“We’ve reached out to Jennie and said if she wishes, we’re interested in pursuing a potential other spinoff for Jane. It is in Jennie’s court.”

Let’s hold thumbs.

So far, 2019 is proving to be a not-so-good year for superheroes.

Last month, Netflix announced that it would be cancelling The Punisher and Jessica Jones, bringing to an end Marvel’s run on television.

And now, over on The CW, we’re having to say goodbye to another fan favorite.

After 8 seasons, DC’s Arrow will be coming to an end.

“This was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of Arrow in mind,” said executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Beth Schwartz in a statement.

“We’re heartened by the fact that Arrow has birthed an entire universe of shows that will continue on for many years to come. We’re excited about crafting a conclusion that honors the show, its characters and its legacy and are grateful to all the writers, producers, actors, and — more importantly — the incredible crew that has sustained us and the show for over seven years.”

Arrow has been the parent of several other The CW shows in the same universe including The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and the upcoming Batwoman.

The final season will consist of 10 episodes.

CW has cast its Batwoman!

Kate Kane aka Batwoman the iconic DC Comics character will be introduced in the network’s upcoming crossover event this December, the Arrowverse, will be played by model and actress Ruby Rose.

Here’s the official longline for the stand-alone series currently in development: “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

If the Batwoman is picked up to series it will make a major first as it will be the first gay lead in a live-action superhero series. It is helmed by producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter and showrunner Caroline Dries and penned by Caroline Dries.

Rose, who herself identifies as gender fluid took to social media to confirm the news writing, “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on TV and felt alone and different.”

Rose is best known for her role in Orange Is the New Black, and has also starred in Pitch Perfect 3, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage and John Wick: Chapter 2. You can see her next in The Meg.
