Brooklyn Nine-Nine has often been hailed as one of the most hilarious, comforting, and relatable sitcoms of the past decade, but all good things must come to an end. Jake Peralta and his squad are getting ready to turn in their badges after eight amazing seasons.

Dan Goor, who co-created this beloved police procedural comedy alongside Michael Schur, announced its final chapter in a heartfelt statement that he shared on social media.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with this amazing cast and crew for eight seasons. They are not only among the most talented people in the business, they are all good human beings who have become a family. But most of all, I feel lucky that we have had the best fans in the world,” wrote Goor.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine centered on a group of detectives working at a fictional 99th Precinct of NYPD, and its ensemble cast included Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, and Joe Lo Truglio. Since its premiere in 2013, each season of this series received critical acclaim, while the very first won the Golden Globe Award for the best comedy series.

It’s a gr8 day to be a Nine-Niner! #Brooklyn99

Season eight is great news for the show considering how many NBC shows have been axed this year. We will soon have to say goodbye to The Good Place and Will & Grace is about to come to a finish after eleven seasons on the network.

Fortunately for fans, Brooklyn Nine-Nine seems to have a long life ahead. After being axed by Fox last year, NBC seems to be doing what they can to keep the show alive.

Season seven will air in February 2020.

The bad news is that Chelsea Peretti has announced that she is leaving the series.

The 40-year-old plays the precinct’s lovable civilian administrator, Gina Linetti, who actively avoids doing any work while inserting quips into every conversation around the office.

“B99 fans. Hiiiiiiiiiiii. Chelsea Peretti, here. I won’t be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in Season 6. But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji. I want to thank you for the hours you spent watching Gina be Gina,” she wrote on Facebook.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine showrunner, Dan Groor, has spoken highly of Peretti saying, “She has brought so much to her amazing, hilarious, unique portrayal of Gina Linetti, which is not surprising since she is one of the funniest people in history. We have tried really hard to create a storyline for her departure that lives up to the character that can only be described as ‘The human embodiment of the 100 emoji.’”

We’ll miss you, Chelsea!

Make that Brooklyn 104!

NBC is making itself a very comfortable home for fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and its fans. In addition to saving the series after FOX announced its end, the network has ordered an extra 5 episodes as part of the forthcoming 6th season.

As a result, we can expect 18 episodes of antics starring Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, and the rest of the precinct.

And it’s not just us who are excited. Terry shared the news on Twitter:

Andy encouraged us all to party over the good tidings:

And Stephanie Beatriz let us know just how happy she is:

The cast began filming of the new season a couple of weeks ago, sharing a few behind the scenes pictures from the set:

Sadly, we’re likely to have to wait for 2019 for season 6, but the extra episodes seem like a good compromise!
