]]>Now that her holiday hit has topped the domestic chart for a third consecutive week, Mariah Carey is the first artist to have a No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 in four separate decades.
That’s right! Carey has ranked atop the Hot 100 in the ’90s, ’00s, ’10s & ‘20s, thanks to the song, which was originally released in 1994, and has finally hit No. 1 this holiday season.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” is Carey’s 19th No. 1, which also officially earns her the title of most No. 1 singles for a solo artist in history.
Carey had the best response to becoming the first artist to rule the Billboard Hot 100 in four decades, writing on Twitter, “Yaaaaaaaaay!!! WE. DID. IT,” followed by a bunch of celebration emojis and then asked “But…. what’s a decade?”

]]>A few weeks ago, Carey won three records in Guinness World Records with the hit song, but she couldn’t have predicted that’s just the beginning of its journey to the top of the charts. “All I Want for Christmas” returned to Billboard Hot 100 countless times after its original release on October 29th, 1994 but this was the first time it reached the top spot.
No one was more amazed by this great accomplishment than Carey herself, who said it’s “mind-boggling” to see this song finally reach the no. 1 spot after so many years.
“We definitely wanted to kick it into high gear this year with the song to celebrate the 25th anniversary, but I definitely didn’t expect it to hit No. 1 two weeks before Christmas! I just want to thank everybody. I want the world to have the best holiday ever,” the singer told Billboard.

]]>The 2020 edition of Guinness World Records will feature three new entries dedicated to Carey’s timeless tune – the highest-charting holiday song on the Hot 100 by a solo artist, most weeks in the UK singles Top 10 chart for a Christmas song, and most streamed track on Spotify in 24 hours with 10.8 million streams last December.
Even before these records were set, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” already went down in history as a best-selling modern-day Christmas song. With global sales of over 16 million copies, it’s one of the best-selling songs of all time, and Carey’s biggest hit to date.
This song made a comeback to the Billboard Hot 100 chart every holiday season since its original release. It actually made its earliest annual jingle back to the chart this year, proving that its legacy is stronger than ever.
