The remake of the Benjamin Rees documentary lands at Neon after it won a bidding war for the project. Co-developing the project is StudioCanal and Blueprint Pictures. 

The Painter and The Thief had its world premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. The Norwegian film follows a Czech artist Barbora Kysilkova and her friendship with Karl Bertil-Nordland, a man who stole her artwork.

The film won the award for Creative Storytelling at the Festival. It also took home the Best Documentary Feature award at the BFI London Film Festival and received two Critics’ Choice Awards nominations for best documentary feature and best director.

So far, the film has received positive reviews from critics with Variety’s Peter Debruge saying, “Incredible. That’s the word that comes to mind with Benjamin Ree’s ‘The Painter and the Thief,’ a stranger-than-fiction friendship story in which vérité techniques produce unbelievable results.”

Neon is also the home for Bong Joon Ho’s Best Picture Oscar winner Parasite. It’s also been working with Apple TV on Alex Gibney’s Totally Under Control.

The medical drama starring Ellen Pompeo had wrapped production on episode 21 of its 25-episode 16th season when it was decided to indefinitely halt production. 

Executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff provided some clarity on Twitter, confirming that the stand-in season 16 closer will be a “satisfying” one. “We will resume our storytelling in Season 17,” she wrote. 

She continued: “We are disappointed that we don’t get to complete our storytelling this season. The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale! It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year.”

According to ABC’s official logline of the now season finale: “Link tries to convince Amelia to take it easy during the final stage of her pregnancy; Hayes asks Meredith a surprising question; Owen makes a shocking discovery.”

Station 19, which follows a group of Seattle firefighters as they put their lives and hearts on the line, hails from show runner and executive producer Krista Vernoff. Multiple outlets confirm that the Emmy winner has signed on to star in the multi-camera comedy pilot from Kari Lizer (The New Adventures of Old Christine), Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios.

In My Village, empty-nester mom Jean Raines (Sedgwick) wonders how she ended up alone while her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family, and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought.

Lizer, who wrote the pilot, will also serve as executive producer.

While its already pretty clear to anyone who watches the show that Annalise Keating (Viola Davis) and the Keating Five have somewhat complicated relations, it seems that their web of ties is going to get even more entangled. 

Jack Falahee who plays Connor tells Entertainment Weekly that in the forthcoming season, “It becomes more and more clear why Annalise chose Michaela [Aja Naomi King] pretty early on in this season.”

“Any time you have a very close and challenging relationship with someone, when more information gets revealed, it really tests your relationship,” added King. “That is what will happen for Michaela. It will be a test of relationships with multiple people.”

Matt McGorry teased of Asher’s final journey: “We’re going to see the repercussions of a lot of the decisions he’s made over the five seasons, and they’re going to come together in a way where he’s going to be scraping around the ashes of the burned bridges he’s ridden across. We’re going to see a lot of fallout from what’s been happening in previous seasons and things people have gotten away with.”

Just a few weeks after ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey canceled the reboot following a racist tweet written by Roseanne Barr, the network confirmed Thursday that a new spinoff is in the works. 

Here’s the official logline for The Conners: “After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. – grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging, and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.”

The new series will star John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman, who released a joint statement following the news of the development of the new series:

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

Executive producer Tom Werner released a statement as well confirming that he has reached an agreement with Barr for Werner Entertainment to producer another spinoff without “further creative or financial participation” from Barr. 

The Conners will join ABC’s lineup this fall.

After ABC announced that Roseanne has been canceled following an offensive tweet written by the show’s lead, Roseanne Barr, sources say that the execs at ABC are looking to re-brand the show.

TMZ reports that the Roseanne reboot may be rebooted for the second time. The new revival will, however, be centered on Sara Gilbert’s character, Darlene, Roseanne’s unemployed daughter, who is a single mom.

Gilbert who was one of the persons leading the revival took to Twitter to stand against the comment made by her co-star. 

Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.

Gilbert has reportedly called several cast members to gauge their interest in the event ABC gives the reboot the green light. TMZ reports that John Goodman is “very interested.”
