The Outpost, an Afghan war thriller starring Scott Eastwood and Orlando Bloom, has set a July 2 release date.

The film from Screen Media and Fathom Events is joining Russel Crowe’s Unhinged as one of the first releases to debut in U.S theaters post coronavirus. Unhinged is set for a July 1 premiere date. Movie theaters across the country have been closed since mid-March.

The July 2 screenings of The Outpost will be accompanied by a special introduction from select cast members and behind-the-scenes footage.

The film is based on Jake Tapper’s best-selling non-fiction book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, which details the 2009 attack by 400 Taliban insurgents in the Battle of Kamdesh in the Afghanistan War. The battle was one of the bloodiest American engagements of the Afghan War in 2009 and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.

“We are thrilled to partner with Fathom Events to bring this heroic tale to theatrical audiences everywhere,” said David Fannon, President of Screen Media. “Independence Day is the perfect time for the country to come back to theaters and The Outpost couldn’t be a better movie for them to come and experience on the big screen.”
