Rugrats has found its director, and he comes with some experience.

Paramount Player’s live-action adaptation of the popular television show centered on a group of toddlers including Tommy, Chuckie, twins Phil and Lil, and Angelica, will be helmed by David Bowers.

Bowers is just the man for the job. He has directed the second, third and fourth installment of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies. His other credits as director of animated movies include Astro Boy and Flushed Away

The original television series was created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain for Nickelodeon. It ran from 1991 and into the 2000s, airing 176 episodes. The show was then made into a trio of animated movies released between 1998 and 2003.

David A. Goodman has been tapped to adapt the script. Producers are Brian Robbins, series creator Csupó and Karen Rosenfelt.

The studio has set a January 29th, 2021, release date.
