Robert De Niro reminded us of his glory days with the roles in this year’s films The Irishman and Joker, and SAG-AFTRA bosses felt it’s the perfect time to honor him with the life achievement award at the upcoming Screen Actor Guild Awards ceremony.

De Niro has been one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors since he rose to prominence during the ‘70s with his roles in Taxi Driver and The Godfather: Part II. Frequent collaboration with Martin Scorsese gave us some of the best movies of his career, including Raging Bull, Casino, and Goodfellas.

The SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris praised De Niro’s ability to “touch our hearts and open our minds to new and exciting worlds of understanding and emotion” in an official statement announcing their decision to honor two-time Oscar winner with this award.

Robert De Niro also released a statement saying it’s an honor to receive this prestigious award from SAG-AFTRA after being a member of this guild for over five decades. He’ll be presented with this accolade at the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, taking place on January 19th, 2020.
