The pirates of the Caribbean are finally ready to set sail after finding a captain to helm their ship.

It was reported on October 2018 that Disney planned to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean series which starred Johnny Depp as the charismatic Captain Jack Sparrow.

Since 2003, all five films in the franchise have grossed more than $4.5 billion worldwide.

Ted Elliot, who wrote four of the Pirates films, including the original, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides which earned more than $1 billion at the box office, has now been hired to direct number six.

Elliot will also develop the story along with his Chernobyl writing partner, Craig Mazin, after Deadpool writing duo, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, pulled out after originally being tasked.

Veteran producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, is also back on board, though it is not known whether Captain Jack — or rather, Johnny Depp — will join them.
