Pierce Brosnan thinks it’s time for a woman play James Bond.

Brosnan, who played the British spy in four installments of the successful franchise, says it’s time for a woman to take on the role of the British spy.

“I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years. Get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter.

But chances are slim as long as Barbara Broccoli serves as the films’ producer.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis,” he said. “I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

He was referring to a statement made by Broccoli a year ago to The Guardian.

“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male. And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters,” she said.

“James Bond has a certain significance and a deep pride,” Brosnan noted. “I will be asked about him until my dying days — it just goes with the territory. He’s a beloved character.”

So we say why not!
