“Night of the Hunter” Remake in the Works

Shelley Winters and Robert Mitchum in "The Night Of The Hunter" (155)

Another adaption of the novel by Davis Grubb is officially in the works.

Variety was first to report that Universal Pictures is remaking The Night of the Hunter. The original 1955 adaption starred Robert Mitchum as an evil religious fanatic, con man and murderer who marries a widow and terrorizes her children to tell him where their dad hid the family’s fortune.

The outlet has confirmed that the feature will be penned by Operation Finale scribe Matt Orton and that it is expected to be a contemporary version of the original thriller, rather than a period piece.
