Netflix’s “Rocko’s Modern Life” Special Has Some Interesting Plot Lines

"Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling"

Rocko and the gang are coming back to Earth and, naturally, after 20 years they are in for a few surprises.

At the end of the popular animated show Rocko’s Modern Life, protagonist Rocko, along with Steer Heffer and Filburt the turtle, end up floating in space after Rocko’s house gets hit by a rocket ship. Now, Netflix is making a special: Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling.

The special sees the trio return to Earth, with Rocko attempting to cling to the past by renewing his now-cancelled TV show, Fatheads.

Another big revelation is the character of Ralph Bighead, offspring to Rocko’s old nemesis Ed Bighead, is a transgender who is now going by Rachel. The story shows the hardships Rachel faces, especially her father’s refusal to accept her identity.

The show has dealt with social issues in the past, but in a less direct manner. For example, one episode shows Ed Bighead trying to hide his identity as a clown because people around him have an irrational fear of clowns. This was, of course, and analogy to coming out of the closet for the LGBT community.
