Mrs. Doubtfire Musical is Officially in the Works

Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire"

Mrs. Doubtfire is finally Broadway-bound and fans are ecstatic!

Rumors of a Broadway Mrs. Doubtfire production have been circulating for years but Fox Stage Productions have finally announced the creative team for the production.

The original film starred the late Robin Williams as a recently divorced actor who dresses up as an old British female housekeeper to be able to interact with his children. It was based on the best-selling source novel, Alias Madame Doubtfire by Anne Fine.

The on-stage production based on the 1993 hit film and will be helmed by four-time Tony Award winner and eight-time Tony nominee Jerry Zaks. John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick (Something Rotten!) will write the book and Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick will handle the music and lyrics.

In a joint statement, McCollum and Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions said, “Mrs. Doubtfire is such a beloved story, both laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving. Getting this team together and crafting Mrs. Doubtfire for the stage has been pure joy. We can’t wait to get into production.”

According to the release, additional creative team members, as well as the cast, will be announced “at a later date.”

Fox Stage Productions have yet to finalize the production’s schedule.
