Mark Ruffalo may appear all tough whilst playing a member of Marvel’s Avengers, but his co-stars would disagree.

The original 6 Avengers (Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlet Johansson, and Mark Ruffalo) have been together a long time and wanted to commemorate their time as world-saving superheroes by getting a group tattoo.

According to Jeremy, who plays Hawkeye, the tattoo included a symbol representing his character as well as the Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Black Widow.

But when it came down to putting ink to skin, Mark couldn’t face the thought.

“Ruffalo is the only one that kind of chickened out at the last minute, Jeremy told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “I’m not sure why. He just didn’t want to do it. So we said, ‘We’ll get you some henna or something.’ ‘Cause it’s not really about the tattoo, it’s about the celebration of our friendship that’s bonded over the last decade. So we’re on this group text, all of the Avengers, we’re like, ‘Ruffalo, everybody is chiming in on this,’ and I’m like, ‘You know, guys, I have Eric Bana’s number, lemme give him a call. You know, the original Hulk…”

In the end, Mark got a pass and they all tattooed their symbol on the artist who inked them instead.

Eric is probably checking his phone for a missed call…
