The classic cop movie Turner & Hooch is getting a TV adaptation and has already received an official 12-episode order on Disney+. Now it also has cast its lead, Josh Peck, who will be playing Turner.
Peck will fill Tom Hanks’ shoes as a detective who tries to solve a murder mystery in which the victims’ dog is the only available witness. Each episode of the 12 ordered will be an hour long.
The creator behind the TV series is Matt Nix, who previously created Burn Notice. Nix will serve as the series writer and executive producer together with Josh Levy from Bones.
This is not the first reboot of the beloved film. A half-hour pilot produced by Touchstone TV and starring Thomas F. Wilson (with the same dog, Beasley) was aired under ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney banner; it did not continue to a full series.
Peck’s previous credits include Nickelodon’s The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh alongside Drake Bell. He also teamed up with John Stamos in Grandfathered, lent his voice in the Ice Age franchise and appeared in Netflix’s indie comedy Take the 10.
