After Alias wrapped up in 2006, Jennifer Garner hasn’t starred in another TV series. Now, that’s all about to change, since the 45-year-old actress accepted the role in new HBO’s dark comedy titled Camping. This TV show comes from Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, who are known for creating another HBO’s successful TV show, Girls. Camping will be based on British series of the same name, which ran for six episodes on Sky Atlantic in 2016.

The U.S. version received eight episodes order and “tells the story of Walt’s 45th birthday, which was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organized and aggressively controlling wife Kathryn. But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten.”

Jennifer Garner will portray the role of Kathryn Siddell-Bauers, a character described as a “controlling LA mom who is far less cheerful than her Lululemons imply. Kathryn controls the proceedings with an iron grip until she’s faced with a woman who undoes all her best laid plans.”

“We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn. ” said Dunham and Konner in a joint statement. “It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.”

The duo added that Garner’s role will be “messy, tough and provocative and really really fun.”

Although the release date for Camping is still to be determined, HBO is planning to begin with production this spring in Los Angeles.

Jennifer Garner’s most recent acting effort was 2017’s movie The Tribes of Palos Verdes. She is also set to star in Greg Berlanti’s comedy Love, Simon.
